Topical stamp collecting enables me to view wild animals from Africa, colorful flowers, lighthouses, cats, dogs, view insects never seen, and to imagine sailing on a lake, or along the coast of a South Pacific Island, all from various countries around the world, in vivid color and representations. What is Topical Stamp Collecting? The American Topical Association (ATA) states, that a topical (or thematic) collection “consists of stamps and other philatelic material which are chosen for their designs, rather than for the countries that issued them or the class of postal service they provide.” That is the formal definition set down by the American Topical Association, the world’s largest organization of topical stamp collectors. The ATA provides an online study course so that you can further understand topical stamp collecting.
I have found Wikipedia to be a great source of information about topical stamp collecting. There is a section on Popular Topics, which will provide an inexpensive list from which to begin your topical stamp collecting. An example is People on Stamps.
For thoes who wish to seriously pursue topical stamp collecting, the ATA sells checklists which provide information regarding the stamps issued within a category. In the near future, many of the ATA Checklists will be available at our store.
Our topical stamps are available in collections or as issued by a country as singles, or in sets.
Our topical stamp collections, are a mixture of stamps from various countries of the world. This mixture of canceled, used, and/or mint, all different stamps, may also contain sets. They are usually sold in packets, or mixtures of 25 to 500 or more stamps.
Further, topical stamps are available as singles or sets. The stamps can be searched by country, or a topic such as sports. Moreover, a country can be searched by a topic such as Italian Paintings.
New items arrive daily. Check back often as we are continually adding to our stock. Items in this category are now being shipped fully insured against loss, or damage.
Further, be sure to check out our supplies, catalogs, or album pages. Enjoy your collection.
